If the Supportworks client is installed on a Windows 7 workstation, there is a problem whereby it is impossible to pin a Supportworks client shortcut to the Windows taskbar. Thus, if you right-click on any of your client's shortcuts and look for the Pin to Taskbar option, you find that it is not available.

The cause of the problem is that the word "Support", which is included in the shortcut's default name of "Supportworks Client", happens to be a keyword in the pinning context. If you do wish to have the facility to start your Supportworks client from the taskbar, you can employ one of the following two workarounds:

  • Change the name of one of the shortcuts to something that does not have the word "Support" in it. A good example might be "SW Client". To make the change, right-click on the shortcut, select Rename and type in the new name.
  • Pin the Supportworks client executable file itself (swcli7.exe in the Supportworks Client folder) to the taskbar.
