Expanding the Number of Available Levels For Problem Profile Codes

In accordance with good working practice, it is advisable to backup your database files before commencing any operation that will change live data.


1. Ensure all Support-Works Clients Are Logged Off for the duration of these instructions.

2. On the Supportworks Server - stop the SwServerService service.

3. On the Supportworks server run the following:

Start ... Programs Hornbill Core Services.... Database Schema Editor

4. In the Database Schema Browser pane expand the database used by the Supportworks server (by default this is the "swdata" database).

5. In the Database Schema Browser pane click on the "opencall" table so that it is highlighted.

6. With the opencall table selected scroll down to the "probcode" columns, in the Columns tab on the right hand side and double click it.

In the Columns Attributes Window that opens up increase the "Max Data Size" value and OK then change. (NOTE: for every level required an increasing this value by 5 is required, for example increasing this from it's default value of 16 to 21 will increase the number of problem profile levels from the default of 3 to 4 levels, increasing this from it's default value of 16 to 26 will increase the number of problem profile levels from the default of 3 to 5 levels.... NOTE:

the maximum number of levels is 8 therefore the maximum value that this parameter should be set to is 41).

7. In the Database Schema Browser pane scroll to the PCDESC table and click on it so that it is highlighted. In the Columns tab on the right hand side double click on the CODE column to open up it's properties. Increase the "Max Data Size" value to match the value entered into the properties of the OPENCALL.PROBCODE field and OK the change.

8. In the Database Schema Browser pane scroll to the PCINFO table and click on it so that it is highlighted. In the Columns tab on the right hand side double click on the CODE column to open up it's properties. Increase the "Max Data Size" value to match the value entered into the properties of the OPENCALL.PROBCODE field and OK the change.

9. In the Database Schema Browser pane scroll to the PROBCODE table and click on it so that it is highlighted. In the Columns tab on the right hand side double click on the CODE column to open up it's properties. Increase the "Max Data Size" value to match the value entered into the properties of the OPENCALL.PROBCODE field and OK the change.

10. Once these changes have been made from go to the toolbar of Supportworks Database Schema Editor utility and from the "Database" pull down menu select the option to "Apply Specification to Physical Database".

11. Close the Supportworks Database Schema Editor utility.

12. Start the SwServerService service.

13. Log into a Supportworks client and test.
